Gert began his banking career in the UK, spending a decade in banking after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. During this time, he built deep expertise in SME banking and the related Commercial Credit products. After returning to South Africa, he founded a commercial credit brokerage focused on helping SMEs secure the funding they need to grow.
In 2022, he co‑founded BlackMarble Business Finance, a business specialising in Debtor / Invoice backed funding. The business was acquired by Mettle in July 2025 and now operates as Mettle Business Finance.
